Happy Holidays

A very merry festive time to you all.  I hope everyone stays well and warm and you sing your way into 2016!

I will be in India for a few weeks teaching in early January but will email everyone with a reminder of classes starting.

Looking forward to the New Year!

Any spare bassoons?

Unknown

Does anyone have a spare bassoon lying around their house?  Thought I would ask in my quest to keep the endangered instrument alive.    A mini bassoon would be best – just thought I would ask…..

Endangered Species

I knew the Bassoon was a special instrument but I had no idea it was SO endangered.

This Guardian article made me smile and realise just how important it was to keep playing in class each week.

Low notes

images-1

After nearly a year my low notes are back!  Practicing for a ceilidh (I know, you don’t usually see a bassoon gigging along in the band – it’s a long story) but I found myself playing with ALL my fingers.  It’s been a long wait since my accident to get playing again so I am really delighted.  Great news for Elsie the Elephant and all her pals!

Have a lovely summer!

Thank you for all the lovely gifts and flowers – they were much appreciated.  It has been an unexpected year, starting it as I did with such a bad accident.  I am not planning on doing that again.  I haven’t yet been back on my bicycle yet but hope to do so this summer.

I am really pleased to be back playing the bassoon (even though I only have 9 working fingers – I am just  missing the low notes for the time being).  If I keep playing and my nerves keep regenerating, I will hopefully be fully functional again in the not too distant future (but realistically, next year).

Thank you for all your patience in having a wounded teacher last Autumn.  I know the children coped fine and were more interested in my sling and new glasses rather than my bashed face and plastered arm.

I have loved teaching all my classes from the babies up to the P2’s.  Each year group brings new challenges and joy and the singing keeps us all going.

The last class with my P2’s was particularly emotional as many of the children I had taught since they were 12 months old.  I think their parents need a medal for bringing them for 6 years!  They have been fabulous and I will miss them.

I will be in touch with everyone in August before classes start on Friday 21 and Wednesday 26.  Happy Summer!

the bassoon will be back

Haven’t quite got the dress (or a good working right hand) but with a bit of careful  adjustment I can play (again!).  It’s been a long time in it’s bag as I have recovered from my accident, but the bassoon is back for the last few weeks of classes.

Spring is here

I see lots of lovely tulips in bloom and apart from thinking about a trip to Amsterdam, am delighted that Spring has arrived.

It’s always a surprise to find term 3 under way and am very happy to be singing Molly Dolly and Elsie the Elephant again.  I have more DO books for those who ordered one (and a few spare) so please let me know if you need a copy.
